Here are a pair of violin making planes signed "HS & Co." which were marketed by Hammacher, Schlemmer & Co. at the turn of the 20th Century.
Both of these tiny little planes have a body only 1" long and an iron measuring 3/8" wide. Although they're the same model number (a No. 1 can clearly be seen on the toe of both planes), one of the planes has a flat sole and the other a convex sole.
Both planes came with a rear handle, though one of the planes has lost theirs. The handled plane is only 2 3/4" long overall, including the tail handle.
These plane were finished in nickel-plated brass, and most of the original nickel remains, but none remains on the sole. The cap screws are nice and shiny and the delicate knurling shows little wear on either plane.
